Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

A Healthy Soul

What’s the best way to know if we have a healthy soul?

Maybe it’s to look at the soles of our feet!

Consider the story below…

“Rudolph!” she calls…

A healthy soul

“What are you doing in that box?”

The five-year-old has found Rudolph’s off-season vacation home.

He’s a musical Rudolph…

So we get to hear several repetitions of the famous song.

Just as we’re thinking, “Not again, please!”

The five-year-old tires of the music…

“Rudolph’s hungry!” she declares.

“I’ll make him breakfast…”

”What do you want to eat, Rudolph?”

“Pizza?”

“How about some pancakes, too?”

“And a hamburger?”

“OK, Rudolph, get ready for a big breakfast!”

She looks at us with her big eyes…

“Can you help me?” she asks.

Out comes the Play Dough and the cookie cutters and the rolling pin…

Soon Rudolph is feasting on green pancakes and purple hamburgers with blue buns.

Finally, Rudolph is full…

And it’s time to clean up the reindeer food production line.

As my wife picks up the last tiny pieces of Play Dough from the floor…

I notice the soles of her shoes…

a healthy soul

Dotted Pink and gray and blue…

Colored not just by Play Dough…

But by the love that fills her soul.

Love that calls her feet to follow

Perhaps that’s the way it is with us all…

Our soles follow where our soul leads…

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6:21

And end up colored by whatever love spills out…

Whether we love the power and the treasure and the money of this world…

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17

Or the mercy and grace of God Himself…

…“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  Matthew 22:37

What we love indelibly marks our souls and our soles…

Do we have a healthy soul?

Maybe the best way to know…

The simplest way…

Is to look at the soles of our feet.

For where our soul leads…

Our soles will surely follow.
