Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

What’s in Your Christmas Survival Kit?

“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

“Wait,” the hostess says…

“I have something for you…”

We’re leaving our first Christmas party of the year…

“It’s your Christmas survival kit!”

Christmas survival kit

I need that survival kit a few days later…

Sitting in a conference room trying to plan one more Christmas party…

“What day works best?” someone asks.

Almost in unison, we pull out our smartphones and open our calendars…

“My kids have Christmas concerts on Friday and Monday.”

“My office party is Tuesday.”

“My family gets here on Sunday.”

You can feel the tension rise as each person looks at their schedule.

Everyone is busy.

Very busy.

We all need a Christmas survival kit…

A survival kit more potent than a bag of candy…

Perhaps we should turn to the words of Jesus…

 Jesus, who said…

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

Or maybe we should look to the actions of Jesus…

Everyone made demands on Him…

Everyone wanted to “get on His calendar”.

But Jesus knew the truth about busy calendars…

Jesus knew a full soul is more important than a full calendar…

And so…

…Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. Luke 5:16

And early in the morning, while it was still dark, He arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there.  Mark 1:35

Today He knows the same is true for us…

So He invites us to follow Him…

Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place…”  Mark 6: 31

He invites us to withdraw with Him to that quiet place…

Where the noise of the world fades away …

Where our souls align with God…

Where we can hear Him say…

“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

And that is a survival kit not just for Christmas…

But for every day of our lives on this earth…
