Circling Sin

“Stop!”

“Brake! “

“Hit the brake!”

But it’s too late!

A dull thud…

And the scrunch of metal as two vehicles collide…

The car has hit the only vehicle in the middle of an empty parking lot!

How, you ask, did this accident happen?

Here’s the story…

From the beginning…

“My permit!” The 15-year-old cries.

“I have my driver’s permit!”

“Teach me to drive, Mama!”

And so they go to a big, empty parking lot.

Acres of empty asphalt…

Surrounding one rusty old maintenance truck parked in the middle of the lot

“You drive now,” says her mama…

“Just drive in circles…

“Big circles around that truck. “

Hands clutching the steering wheel…

Teeth clenched…

The fifteen-year-old touches the gas pedal…

The car moves!

She is very nervous.

“Drive in circles,” her mama had said…

Circles around the truck…

Her eyes never leave the truck…

As she keeps the steering wheel pulled to the left…

The circles get smaller and smaller…

The truck comes closer and closer…

Until finally Mama notices…

And shouts, “Stop!”

But it’s too Late…

Thud!

Stay away from sin, God says…

And yet we keep circling sin …

Our eyes glued to it…

Our hearts focused on it…

Circling sin …

Coming ever closer…

Until…

Thud!

Our hearts and minds and souls collide with Sin…

Forgetting God always gives a way to resist temptation…

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it  1 Corinthians 10:13

Forgetting He tells us to focus not on the temptations of the world…

but on Him…

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8

Forgetting He has given the world the ultimate answer to sin…

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16

P.S.  The collision in this story happened at very slow speed. There was no damage to the car, the truck, the passenger or the driver of the car…except perhaps to the driver’s ego.  She survived and is now teaching her own children how to avoid the dangers of this world.
