Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

From My Heart

Digging through a drawer of old electronics…

I find…

From my heart

A phone…

A classic Phone…

Remember these phones?

They used to be the latest model…

The coolest model…

Two more phones…

From My Heart

Not exactly the latest models either…

But once they were the latest and the greatest.

And I felt very cool talking on them…

Cool… like I do today…

Talking on my new phone…

Uh Oh….

Didn’t they just introduce a new model?

The tools keep updating…

But my conversations don’t…

I remember the conversations I had on those old phones…

“How are you?”

“When will you be home?”

“How’s the project coming along?”

Not exactly scintillating…

Now I have a new phone…

And a blog…

And accounts on Twitter and Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest…

All the latest technology…

Yet the words I say and write…

The searches I make…

The pictures I post…

Are pretty much the same as they were on the old phones.

Boring at best

Sometimes, worse than boring…

“Did you hear what he said?”

“Wait till I tell you about…”

“Don’t tell anybody, but…”

Conversations written and spoken on the most modern electronic gadget …

Conversations formed of nothing but old fashioned gossip…

Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.  Proverbs 11:13

Conversations saying bad things about someone else…

Do not speak evil against one another… James 4:11

Conversations meant to make me feel better about myself…

Better than I have any right to feel…

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…  Romans 12:3

I don’t plan to get a new phone this year…

Even if I did, it wouldn’t change my conversations much.

Because my conversations don’t come from my phone…

My conversations come from my heart …

My conversations…

My Words…

Come from my heart …

…for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

The only source for a new heart?

A heart that follows God’s Spirit?

A heart that communicates God’s love?

The only source is God Himself…

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  Ezekiel 36:26
