Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Grace Period

“I only missed two points and I got a B?”

Grace Period

“I only missed 3 and got a C!” exclaims another student.

A low murmur turns into a loud grumble as students look at the grades on their essays.

“Sounds like you have some questions about your grades,” the instructor says, and smiles.

Nobody smiles back.

“Well,” he says diving into the dead silence that fills the room…

“Here’s the problem…”

“We all did the mid-term together.  So everybody got an A.”

“You also get extra points for attending class.”

“Right now, everybody has an A in this class.”

“This paper and the final are the only two grades left.”

“I can’t give everybody an A in the class.”

“I guess you could say I gave you a grace period.”

“The grace period is over.”

“Now I have to find ways to take points away.”

Ever had a grace period?

Usually grace periods apply to paying what we owe…

A credit card…

A loan…

A utility bill…

Aren’t grace periods fun while they last?

But their very name implies they’ll vanish after a period of time.

Here’s what Wikipedia says about grace periods…

Grace periods can range from a number of minutes to a number of days…   Wikipedia

Minutes or days …

Never long enough.

What else can we expect from a world which  is only here for a period of time itself?

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies… Isaiah 51:6

Where can we turn for grace that never ends?

To God…

To God alone…

To God, who assures us…

…my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.  Isaiah 51:6

The world gives grace periods.

God gives grace. Period.

And that’s good…

Because we could never repay what we owe Him.
