Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Those who Humble Themselves …

…those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:12

He looked at His watch…

Those who humble themselves

Time to call…

It was late afternoon where he was traveling.

But it was already evening at his office….

Where his entire executive staff waited for his call.

He could have called hours earlier.

But calling now…

Telling his staff not to leave until he called…

Reminded them who was boss…

Kept them in their place.

He talked to them one after another…

The entire string of calls lasting more than an hour…

No one daring to leave the office…

until he finished his last conversation.

Finally, he hung up the phone and smiled.

It was important that everybody knew their place…

And his.

It was a culture he spread throughout the company…

Restrooms restricted to various levels of employees.

Entrances designated for executives only.

Hallways that low level employees dared not enter.

It was important, he thought, that everyone was kept in their place …

How easy it is to see everybody’s place… as just a little below ours.

How easy to forget what the Bible says…

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Philippians 2:3

How easy it is to think we are leaders when we compel others to serve us…

To forget that Christ taught us…

…whoever would be great among you must be your servant… Matthew 20:26

How easy it is to forget the very example of Christ himself …

who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.  And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8

Who submitted to death on the cross…

That we might be saved…

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us…Romans 5:8
