Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Who Can Live In The Moment?

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

“Let’s go to  a movie!” I proclaimed…

“Let’s spend Saturday together!”

Our daughter was eight years old and already had a calendar filled with swim meets, soccer, band practice.

Really?!  An eight year old has a ‘calendar’?

She did.  And it was full…

That meant our calendars were filled with those events, too…

Along with our own obligations to friends, and work and church…

Today would be different. Everybody’s calendar was open.

We’d spend the day together, with no thoughts, no worries…

Just family time…

We’d live in the moment!

Or so we thought…

First stop, the movies…then?

Who knew?  It would be a carefree, “live in the moment” kind of day!

The theater lights dimmed and the movie started…

But my mind projected another movie…

A movie about next week at work…

A complicated week…

A week when a lot could go wrong.

The lights came up.

What?

The movie was over?

Nearly two hours had passed.

My wife and daughter had spent them together.

They had chosen to live in the moment.

I had chosen to live them alone in a world that did not yet exist.

I had ignored Jesus’ words…

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.   Matthew 6:-34

How many times have I decided not to live in the moment?

How many times have I worried about the future?

How many times have I regretted the past?

A past for which God has already forgiven me?

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Hebrew 8:12 (NIV)

How many times have I missed being present with the people around me?

How many times have I missed being present with God?

The God whose name is not “I Will Be” or “I Was”, But “I AM”…

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” Exodus 3:14

If God is the Great I AM…

If He is always in the moment…

Could learning to live in the moment be learning to live with God?

Could learning to live in the moment be  preparation  for an eternity spent living moment to moment with Him?
