Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

New Year-New You

“New Year-New You …”

New Year-New You

Said the sign outside the clothing store…

She laughed to herself…

“I’m ready for a new me.”

So many things she’d like to leave behind…

The job she’d lost…

The relationship that had ended unexpectedly…

Words she had said…

Things she had done…

Leaving them all behind?

Becoming a whole “new you”?

She was ready…

“New Year-New You” sounded pretty good to her…

But how?

The sign had an answer….

New Clothes…

new-year-new-clothes

Simple…

And perfect for a sign outside a clothing store.

“The real answer,” she told herself, “is much more complicated…”

As she thought about the last year…

Becoming a “New You” seemed not just complicated…

But beyond her grasp.

Her inward laugh turned to a sigh…

“You can’t,” she thought, “undo the past.”

A verse came to mind…

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.  Isaiah 43:18

Was it really as simple as forgetting the past?

Surely there was some complicated formula she must follow…

Some intense internal battle she needed to fight.

Wait…

What came after that verse?

Behold, I am doing a new thing…  Isaiah 43:19

Maybe the battle was God’s… not hers…

….‘Do not be afraid or discouraged … For the battle is not yours, but God’s.  2 Chronicles 20:15

Maybe it was God’s strength and not her own on which she needed to depend…

…be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Ephesians 6:10

Maybe the battle was already ended…

…It is finished… John 19:30

Maybe God had already made her…

Made all of us…

New again…

… if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  2 Corinthians 5:17

Giving us a gift beyond price…

…the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23

A gift we could never earn…

A gift born of His love…

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16
