Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Our Home Eternal

“You’re paying way too much,” says the real estate agent…

“This house won’t appraise for two-thirds of what you offered!”

“I don’t care,” the buyer replies.  “I’ve got to have this house.  I’ll find the money somewhere…”

It’s a suddenly hot real estate market where we live.

When we listed our house…

We had three offers in six days.

The buyers move into our house in about 8 weeks.

And we’ll be moving…

Somewhere.

I hope.

The hot market means every house we look at has multiple offers…

Four offers on the first day for one house.

Nine for another…

And so we keep looking…

“This house is too high-priced!”

“This house has no yard for the grand kids to play in…”

“This house is perfect!”

“Oh. Six offers?”

“In half a day?”

So we keep looking…

We’re ready to sacrifice time and money for an earthly house…

A house where we’ll live for only a little while…

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  2 Corinthians 5:1

Can we really count on our home eternal in the heavens?

What does Jesus say?

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?  John 14:2

What does Jesus ask us to sacrifice for our home eternal?

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”   Matthew 7:24-27

And then we can say…

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Psalm 23:6
