Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Pearl of Great Value

God slapped me up the side of the head the other day…

pearl of great value

Well sort of…

Here’s the Bible verse He used…

A Bible verse from a recent post

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Matthew 13:44

Jesus is speaking in that verse…

Telling us about the kingdom of God.

He could have said…

The kingdom of God is like a shining star far beyond your grasp…

A thing so beautiful you’d sell everything you have to obtain it.

But don’t bother…

Because it is not meant for ordinary people like you.

But that is NOT what Jesus said…

Instead he located the treasure of the kingdom of heaven in the dirt of an ordinary field.

The God of the universe, He says…

Can be seen in the things of this world.

Stunning.

As Paul says in Romans…

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.  Romans 1:20

Jesus located the kingdom of heaven within our reach…

Ours to grasp…

If only we will loosen our hold on the world…

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.  Matthew 13:45-46

For the pearl of great value is Christ Himself…

Dwelling not on some inaccessible plane…

But sent to our world by God the Father…

That any who come to Him might be saved…

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad.  So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:47-50
