Walking in all different directions…

Finds his store and strides off quickly…
Knowing his destination and hurrying to it…
Up ahead…
Three teenage girls walk together…
They walk slowly…
Talking to each other…
Laughing with each other.
Compared to the man on a mission…
They almost seem to wander…
Their mission is simply to be together…
Who they walk with…
Changes the pace of their walk…
Changes the direction of their walk.
Pleasing who they walk with…
Becomes the purpose of their walk…
So how will we walk?
Like the man on a mission…
Who knows exactly what he wants and where to get it?
Or will we be like the teenagers …
Whose purpose for walking is to be with others…
Whose walk is influenced by who they walk with?
And if we follow the example of the teenagers…
With whom will we walk?
Who will set the direction of our walk?
Who will we try to please?
Would it be possible to walk with God?

I’ve been thinking back about my own walk that day…
I had a goal …
To walk two miles around the outside of the mall as fast as I could…
I guess you could say that by following my goal…
I was walking in circles…
