Seeing God in Real Life…
“They aren’t real parents,” I say to my wife.
We haven’t met them.
They’ve just moved into the neighborhood…
But we are sure…
They aren’t real parents.
After all…
Their kids are in high school.
Our daughter is in first grade.
That’s where the real parenting takes place.
By the time our daughter is in high school, we think…
All the hard work of parenting will be done…
Things will just sort of be on auto-pilot.
Nine years later…
Our daughter is a high school freshman.
A new family moves in down the block…
With kids in kindergarten and second grade.
“They’re not real parents,” we say confidently.
“Real parenting happens when kids are in high school.”
We are sure we’re right. Again.
