You are looking at a picture of my new best friend…
That’s right…
The bathroom scale is my new BFF.
How could it be my new best friend?
Because today it told me I have lost 20 pounds in the last 24 hours.
20 Pounds?
In one day?
Awesome.
I don’t have to eat that salad for lunch!
I’ll have a cheeseburger and french fries, and a cookie for dessert.
But…20 pounds in one day?
Before I change my plans on the advice of the scale…
Maybe I’d better check one more time…
I step off the scale…
Wait for it to reset to zero…
Then step on it again.
Same result.
I like this scale.
I believe what it says…
The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps. Proverbs 14:15
There is another scale in the hall bathroom.
Maybe I should seek its advice.
I step on it, look down, and it says…
No weight loss…
The same weight as yesterday…
…in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14
I know which scale I want to believe.
I know which one is telling the truth.
Which means…
No hamburger…
No French fries…
Just lots of leafy green lettuce.
Whose advice should I believe?
Easy.
Unfortunately.
Sometimes it’s not so easy to know what advice to believe.
How to tell the difference?
Where to find real advice ?
How did the ancient kings of the Bible seek advice from God ?
…David inquired of the LORD… 2 Samuel 2:1
Therefore David inquired of the Lord… 1 Samuel 23:2
… Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.” 2 Chronicles 18:4
How do we “inquire of the LORD”…
How do we find advice from God?
… in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
