3:00 AM…
The Cell phone rings.
Reaching for it in the dark, I knock it to the floor…
“Hello?” calls a disembodied voice…
“I’m in the ditch about a mile south of town…”
“How soon can you get here?”
“Huh?”
“I’m an 18 wheeler, so bring one of your big rigs to pull me out.”
I mumble something about prank calls in the middle of the night and hang up.
The phone rings again.
“I don’t appreciate your hanging up on me, and I’m gonna tell all my buddies not to call your towing service!”
“Towing service?”
“Yeah it’s right here… it says, ’24/7 Towing'”
“We are not a towing service.”
“But your number’s on the website.”
It was the first call we got for the towing service.
It was not the last.
All those people calling us…
Calling for help we couldn’t provide.
How easy it is to turn to the wrong place for help….
To forget who we should really trust…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
To think God is far away even when he has promised…
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”Hebrews 13:5
To forget that…
The wisdom of God is ours for the asking…
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
The strength of God is ours for the taking…
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
The protection of God is always ours…
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom 2 Timothy 4:18
So when we call for help from God…
We can say with confidence…
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Psalm 23:4
