Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Cost of Saying No To God

Nineteen years old and facing a life-changing decision…

Cost of saying no

Which way will he go?

Will he say “Yes” ?

Or will he say “No” ?

Saying yes means leaving his friends…

Moving to a new city…

Starting school at a new university…

Pretty scary at nineteen.

And so he stands in the registrar’s office at the college he’s  attended for two years…

Trying to decide if he’ll enroll for another semester.

He’s been accepted by a university specializing in the field he wants to enter…

exciting.

But scary.

Maybe he’ll say no to the new school…

Come  back to what he knows…

Back to what is safe.

 God stands before us daily…

Asking us to abandon what we know and step into the unknown with Him…

Asking us to trust Him…

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.    Psalm 37:5

To trust that His plans are better than ours…

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.      Jeremiah 29:11

Trust that He will be with us always…

…“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5

That He will be with us no matter what we face…

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38-39

We hesitate…

And so God waits…

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9

Waits in love…

For God so loved the world…

Waits in mercy

that he gave his one and only Son…

Waits in grace…

That whoever believed in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

P.S…I was the student in the registrar’s office.  I transferred to the new university.  And that, as the famous poet says, “… has made all the difference.”

Eventually my degree led to a job in a city where I met my wife.

40 years, one daughter and two grandchildren later, all I can say is, “Thank you, God.”
