Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Distracted From God

I’m distracted from God today…

Distracted from God

Distracted by my to-do list and my calendar…

My morning to-do’s stretch past a dozen items…

I won’t get them all done.

This afternoon, I have three appointments…

Each in a different location….

At six, there’s a meeting that lasts until eight PM.

A busy day.

I’m distracted from God.

I can’t even think about my second to-do list…

A list of the things I’d like to do for God.

Nope…

There’s just no time for God today.

Sighing, I turn back to my impossibly long list…

Which task should I attack first?

I sigh again…

And pray…

God, align my priorities with yours…”

“Lead me to spend my time the way you want me to spend it.”

In that moment, I feel God’s presence and realize He’ll be with me all day…

No matter which to-do list I work on…

God doesn’t ask us to do “holy things” for Him…

He asks us to do everything for him…

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,  since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.  Colossians 3:23-24

It’s up to us to recognize His presence in everything we do…

To surrender each task to Him…

“… we need only to recognize GOD intimately present with us, to address ourselves to Him every moment, that we may beg His assistance for knowing His will in things doubtful, and for rightly performing those which we plainly see He requires of us, offering them to Him before we do them, and giving Him thanks when we have done.”  ― Brother Lawrence, The Practice of the Presence of God

To surrender each moment to Him..

For then, we won’t be forced to choose…

To choose between God and the tasks of this world…

Then we won’t be distracted from God …

And in the midst of the distractions of this world…

We will accept the invitation of Jesus…

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28
