Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

How Do We Finish Well

She walks slowly across the floor…

Using her purple cane.

Some days, she leans on her walker…

But today, she’s feeling good…

And her cane is enough.

She steps up…

And hangs her cane on the back of…

The treadmill…

That’s right…

The treadmill.

She and her friend are at the gym.

She’ll turn 85 in a couple of months.

She will keep her body working…

She will finish well.

It’s a practical decision…

But there are other implications as well…

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

She’s determined to finish well …

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

Following the example of Jesus…

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:2

Jesus…Who ran the race God gave Him…

And said with faith…

…“It is finished,”  John 19:30

And what is the race, which God has given us?

… make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-20

May we run that race so that we may finish well …

And say with Paul

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

So that we may hear…

… ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.  Matthew 25:21
