Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Keeping Our Focus on God

They were staring at us…

focus

It was a day at the beach, and I was staring at the waves…

Staring at the translucent water…

A light aquamarine near the shore where the light tan of the sandy bottom mixed with the reflected blue of the sky…

And a dark, dark blue further offshore where the bottom vanished and the blue of the sky mixed with the dark of the deep.

It was a beautiful sight.

I couldn’t take my eyes off of it…

Apparently the people in front of me felt the same way about me and my family…

They couldn’t take their eyes off of us…

Their backs were to the water and they were staring right at my family and me.

Why would they come to a beautiful beach and focus on us?

Were we that weird?

There were three of them, all sitting in a straight line next to each other.

They talked, they smiled, they laughed, but they never turned their heads toward each other.

Always, always, always their faces were turned toward us…

We appeared to be their focus..,

About an hour later, they stood, almost in unison, and angled their chairs slightly to the left.  Now they were staring at people further down the beach.

What were they doing?

Settling back into their chairs, they applied a new coat of sun-tan lotion.

They were tanning!

They chose to face away from the beach and its beauty, and closed their eyes behind their sunglasses as they absorbed the sun’s rays…

All so they could reflect its surface-deep glow.

How different it is with God…

We don’t have to choose between watching the truly beautiful and becoming beautiful ourselves…

There is nothing in this world more beautiful than God and his love…

Only when we focus on him and his love, turning always toward Him, will we reflect his beauty, His power, and His love for all the world to see…

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…Mathew 6:33

Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; they will behold a far-distant land. Isaiah 33:17
