And he said to them, “Follow me …”  Matthew 4:19

“ Follow me ,” the mother says…

As she walks through the mall.

The 5-year-old…

Easily distracted by the temptations arranged at her eye level…

Looks up from a toy display…

And can’t see Mama anywhere.

“Follow me,” Mama Calls.

But how can she follow Mama if she can’t see her?

Which way did Mama go?

“Mama!” she calls…

“ Follow me ,” mama calls.

She knows her Mama’s voice…

But how can she follow Mama…

if she can’t see her?

“ Follow me ,” Jesus says…

We hear his voice…

But the distractions of this world are many.

We look up…

And Jesus is nowhere in sight.

How can we follow Jesus if we do not see Him?

Where do we look for Jesus?

We turn to the Cross…

And see Him in his devotion to God…

Saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”  Luke 22:42

See Him in his compassion for sinners like us…

And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”  Luke 23:43

And as we focus on Him…

Our earthly life disappears…

…the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14

Until all that is left is Christ…

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.  Galatians 2:20

We set out to follow Him…

To follow Him in His compassion…

In His love and devotion for God.

To follow Him into the light…

… “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12
