Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

For I know the plans I have for you

For I know the plans I have for you… Jeremiah 29:11

Moving breaks things…

For I know the plans I have for You

This lamp for instance…

On the day we moved…

The movers carried that lamp into our new house…

They set it up very carefully.

In fact, two movers spent a lot of time getting it set up…

I wondered why two movers worked on one small lamp…

It isn’t a heavy lamp…

Or an expensive lamp…

It certainly isn’t complicated to set up.

The lamp looked great when they finished…

Until I touched it…

And it fell to the floor in pieces.

Moving breaks things.

Not just physical moving…

Maybe that’s why I resist when God wants me to move forward on a spiritual journey…

I hear Jesus say…

“Follow Me…”  Matthew 4:19

My response?

“I don’t want to make the move right now, Lord!”

Why does God sometimes want us to move?

He may want us to break a lot of things in our lives…

Moving breaks old relationships…

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”  1 Corinthians 15:33

Moving breaks old habits…

…put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.  Ephesians 4:22-24

Moving can even break my limited view of God…

…then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it. Ecclesiastes 8:17

The view I have come to depend on more than God himself.

How easy it is to say…

“I’m comfortable where I am now, God.”

But when we’re following God…

Breaking old relationships and habits and views can be a very good thing.

Because then we can break the chains that hold us back…

And move forward into the great and good plan God has for each of us…

For I know the plans I have for you ,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11
