From the lips of children … Matthew 21:16
“Good job!”
The little boy shouts to the policeman…
The policeman laughs and walks back to his car.
“Good job” are the words the three-year-old hears whenever he does what mama asks…
Bu why was he saying those words to a policeman?
Fifteen minutes ago, he and his mama walked to the car…
“Hold my hand in the parking lot,” she calls to him…
“Good job, buddy!”
Both the mama and the three-year-old know the routine.
Pressing the button on the key fob…
Mama unlocks all the doors…
Opens the one by the car seat…
And starts working with the buckles and straps
Her hands full…
She tosses her keys into the front of the car.
She closes the door…
And walks to the driver’s door.
Locked.
All the doors are locked.
Looking through the window…
She sees her only set of keys…
inside the car.
Occupied with the battle of the buckles…
She didn’t hear the slight click when the key fob landed on the front seat…
Didn’t see the door locks slide into locked position.
Anxious to get her child out of the r on a warm day…
She finds her cell phone and calls the police.
Within minutes a policeman arrives.
He opens the locked doors…
To the glee of the three-year-old
“Good Job!” he calls to the policeman…
And holds up his hand for a high-five.
“You did it!” he says
From the lips of children …
Come the words they have been taught…
From their hearts of children come they actions they have witnessed.
What should we teach children about God through our words and actions?
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
For if that is what we teach our children, then one day, they may hear the ultimate “Good job”
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:23
