Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

A Glorious Future

It was a beautiful fall day…

futureThe leaves had changed…

Gone were the green shades of summer…

Replaced by the oranges and reds and yellows of autumn…

The lake reflected the vivid color of the leaves making the day twice as brilliant…

The temperature was warm enough to be comfortable…

But cool enough for “comfortable” to mean a light jacket or a sweater…

I remember distinctly the day I took that picture…

It wasn’t this year…

It wasn’t even last year…

I wonder if the lake is beautiful again this fall?

I am afraid to look…

Not every fall is bright-hued…

Some years the leaves drop early from their exalted place on the branches…

Some falls they litter the ground with the dead brown of winter…

I am afraid to look.

I am afraid to exchange my memory of a beautiful fall-past…

For the reality of the present.

I cling to the past for security…

instead of experiencing the present and stepping into the future with faith and confidence in God…

Is my faith in God is so small?

Do I only believe what I see?

Why can’t I see God’s power through the eyes of the centurion who asked Jesus to heal his servant?

He didn’t have to see Jesus perform a miracle to believe in Him…

And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. Mathew 8:7-8

Do I believe only in what I have seen in the past?

The past is certain…. But it is dead…

With God, the future is certain too…

It is certain and alive…

It is alive with His glory…

“… no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” 1 Corinthians 2:9
