When you read this post, my wife and I will be celebrating…
Why will we be celebrating?
We will be celebrating because 37 years ago on this date, we were married.
That’s why we will celebrate…
You might be surprised to know exactly Who we will celebrate…
“What?” you ask, “Won’t you celebrate each other?
“Won’t you celebrate your accomplishment in sustaining a marriage for 37 years?”
No. Not at all…
Here’s why…
Thirty-eight years ago, when I had lived only twenty-some years…
When I couldn’t imagine living thirty-seven years, let alone being married that long…
A friend referred me to a friend who offered me a dream job in a city 400 miles away.
I knew so little about the city, I had to look it up on a map.
Who could have sent me to that city?
My friend?
His friend?
God alone.
When I arrived in the new city, a series of events happened involving my boss’ assistant, a community theater group, and a very talented make-up artist…
If any of those events had changed…even slightly…
I might never have met my wife…
Who could arrange all those events?
I’m sure you will agree…
God alone.
We hadn’t been married a year when my job required us to move…
Our new home was several hundred miles and two states away from my wife’s hometown and all of her family…
It was an eight hour drive…
She cried all the way.
But the next two years were happy years …
We moved into our first home…
Our daughter was born…
And our love grew.
Who could give us such gifts?
God alone.
I started traveling three to five days a week for work.
In addition to living with a young guy who was still learning how to be a husband, my wife had to deal with a toddler and all the household chores by herself…
Who could keep our marriage strong in those times?
God alone.
Thirty seven years later…
We’re still married…
Still deeply in love…
and I’m still learning how to be a husband.
Who do we thank?
Who do we celebrate?
God alone.
Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Philippians 4:4
Because God alone says…
Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you ~ Hebrews 13:5
