Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

God Made Me Sin

God Made Me SIn

God made me sin!

That’s right…

My sins are God’s fault…

I’ve Got to blame somebody…

Why not blame God?

Proverbs 19:3

When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.

If God’s in charge of everything, it’s logical to blame Him!

Or is it??

Think about it…

The Bible says God is perfect…

Matthew 5:48

…your heavenly Father is perfect.

He is Holy…

Isaiah 6:3

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And if He is perfect and Holy, how can he do something bad??

James 1:13

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

Besides, He’s already shown He loves us, even when we do bad things, when we sin…

 Romans 5:8

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Why would a God who loves us look for ways to hurt us?

If I can’t blame God, how about Satan?

The Bible says Satan’s in charge of our fallen world…

1 John 5:19

…the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

So, does the Bible say it’s all Satan’s fault? Does it say there’s nothing I can do to stop him?

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Where will I get the strength to resist Satan?

Notice how the verse starts… “Submit yourselves therefore to God…”.  Is it in God’s strength that we resist Satan?

Look again at the first verse in this post…

Proverbs 19:3

When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.

I highlighted the first part of the verse, because it clearly says Its all my fault. It’s “my folly” that leads to sin. Perhaps part of that folly is not submitting to God, moving forward in my own miniscule strength and my own supposed wisdom to get what I want.

Or consider another verse…

James 1:14

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

My own desire…

Have I forgotten this next verse?

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

So, who to blame when I sin? Me. Myself. I am to blame. No One else.

But how can I resist sin?  How can I submit to God and fight Satan in God’s strength?  The Bible says…

Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

1 Thessalonians 5:22

Abstain from every form of evil.

Ephesians 4:27

And give no opportunity to the devil.

John 14:15

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Galatians 5:16

walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Matthew 5:48

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Yet even if we seek the perfection of God, we will fail.  We will not be perfect.

And in those moments, we can do one more thing…

We can thank God for his grace and his love for fallen people like us…

  John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

And because of that love and grace, when God looks at us, he doesn’t see our sins. He sees the righteousness of Jesus…

2 Corinthians 5:21

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Maybe I can no longer say, “God made me sin”.

What do you  think?

Does God make us sin?
