As God Sees us….
I love you,” says my wife, “But…”
Uh-oh.
Any sentence that starts with a complement…
And then uses the word “but” as a transition…
Portends bad news.
You just know things are going to get worse after that little three letter word…
Here’s the story of a day when my wife said, “I love you, but…”
We had just met someone new…
“I’m getting older!” he says during our conversation…
“On my next birthday, I’ll be…”
And he tells us his age.
He is fourteen years younger than I am.
After he leaves…
I turn to my wife with a smile…
“Before He told us his age, I Thought he looked a lot older than I look.”
“I guess I look young for my age!”
There is a pause.
My wife smiles.
“Well,” she says, “I love you. But He does look younger…”
Another illusion shattered…
My smile turns to a frown.
She notices.
“I mean,” She adds, “if you look really carefully.”
I look so young and handsome in the mirror every morning when I shave…
Ah well…
I guess I’m not good at seeing myself as others see me.
Maybe sometimes I give myself a little extra credit…
Forgetting what Paul said…
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment… Romans 12:3
If I can’t see myself as others see me…
How often do I forget how God sees me?
How often do we all forget…
Forget God sees us as forgiven…
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Forget God sees us as light in a world of darkness…
“You are the light of the world. Matthew 5:14
That God sees us as proclaimers of his glory…
…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
That above all, God sees us as his children…
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…John 1:12
His dearly loved children…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
