I stood watching…
My eyes focused on everything she did…
How unfriendly she looked…
How little she interacted with people near her…
Instead she stared straight ahead. not even making eye contact with them…
Moving closer to her leader I mentioned all the things she was doing…
Or not doing…
I walked away feeling I had done the right thing…
After all, that’s the way the Bible tells us to deal with other people, right?
I mean I hadn’t embarrassed her or been nasty…
That’s the way the Bible tells us to deal with other people, right?
About then, I started thinking about Bible verses…
And God whispered the truth…
What were you doing, He asked, when there people were waiting to be helped?
Me?
I was busy…
Busy listening to that little internal voice telling me what a bad job she was doing…
Busy passing judgment on her…
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2
Again God whispered the truth…
So your sin was the same as hers?
Uh… I never looked at it that way…
… “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone…” John 8:7
God whispered again…
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. Romans 2:1
What should I have done, God?
And again God whispered …
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:3-5
“Take the log out of your own eye…”
My own sin blinds me to my sin…
What else can I do but fall on the grace of God?
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14
