So there we were… On a dance floor…
We hadn’t been dating very long and I had avoided every opportunity to dance…
“Do you want to go to the new dance club?”
“Not tonight.”
“Friends are having a party. There’ll be lots of dancing.”
“Uh…I’m really tired.”
“Let’s play some music and dance!”
“Later.”
Why did I keep saying “No”? Simple. I can’t dance.
Tonight there would be no escape. Tonight was New Year’s Eve. Everybody was dancing.
My date stepped onto the dance floor.
She could really dance!
She held out her hands. I followed her onto the floor.
She must have seen the look of terror in my eyes.
“Take my hands,” she whispered. “Just follow me.”
I soon realized I had a two part role to play:
1. Don’t make her look bad by calling attention to myself
2. Don’t step on her feet
We had a great time…
She didn’t worry about my bad dancing, and when people complimented us on “our” dancing, she just smiled.
That’s pretty much what grace looks like to me:
- God forgives us
- He gives us credit for the amazing work Somebody Else did on the Cross
Three weeks after that party, I asked my “date” to marry me.
In an act of Grace I will never understand, she said “Yes”.
Grace indeed….
MY Grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness…
