Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Have A Little Grace

“Have a little grace …”

have a little grace

The traffic reporter says.

“There’s a diver stalled in the center lane. “

“Traffic’s making its way slowly around him.”

“He didn’t plan to be there.”

“Have a little grace .”

“It could be you.”

In fact…

It was me on another day…

I pull up to a busy highway…

And my car’s engine stops.

The traffic light turns green.

But my dashboard lights stay red.

My car engine is silent…

A silence filled by the angry blare of horns…

Drivers pull around me on both sides.

Yell at me…

Yell words about my ancestors and my general level of intelligence.

” Have a little grace ,” I think.

I call the tow truck.

“Sure,” says the voice on the other end of the line, “We’ll be right there.”

“We’ll be right there in two to three hours.”

Looking down to push the end button…

I don’t see the big guy walking up to my car…

He’s big as in “I could be a professional wrestler, but I prefer something more challenging…”

He knocks on my window.

Uh. Oh.

Is he about to deliver his complaint in person?

I open the window…

Slowly.

Slightly.

He smiles. Good sign.

“See that intersection back there?” he asks.

‘If you put the car in neutral and steer….”

“I  can push it into the side street.”

I’ll bet he can.

He does.

Eventually the tow truck arrives…

Taking my powerless car away.

In truth, the road isn’t the only place where I lose power.

Sometimes, my spiritual life stalls…

I call to God…

“Please, God! Have a little grace! “

God, in His grace, says “I’ll be right there…in my own time.”

And so, I call on the Lord…

In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.  Psalm 86:7

And wait …

…they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Trusting in His promise that He is always with us …

Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you.   Hebrews 13:5
