Quiet tears stain her three-year-old cheeks…
She sits at her pre-school desk and cries…
As everybody else sings happy birthday to her friend.
She is glad it’s her friend’s birthday.
But what about her birthday?
Has everybody forgotten her birthday?
Have her mama and her daddy forgotten her birthday?
Have her teachers forgotten?
Have her friends forgotten?
The teacher sees her crying…
“What’s wrong?” she asks,
“Isn’t it my birthday today?”
“No. I’m sorry. Your birthday isn’t today.”
“Your birthday is in two more months.”
“Months?”
She’s not sure what ‘months’ means.
But she knows what ‘two’ means…
When mama says, “Bedtime in two minutes…”
It means the day is over.
When Mama says, “I am counting to two!”, It means everything is over….
Two…
Her birthday must be coming soon.
“Hurry, birthday,” she thinks.
“Come soon, birthday!” she calls impatiently.
I laugh when I hear her story…
How like her I am…
Impatient over my circumstances.
Calling out to God when I face problems…
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? Psalm 13:1
Wondering how God counts time…
… with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8
Wondering what He means when He says…
“Look, I am coming soon! Revelation 22:7
Calling out even more urgently…
Even so, come, Lord Jesus! Revelation 22:20
Wanting to know when He will return…
How long Lord?
Forgetting He has said…
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Matthew 24:36
Forgetting there is only one thing I need to know…
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
