“ Is God real?” she asked skeptically.
“I know how the Bible was put together, and if you knew, you’d have doubts about its validity, too.”
My wife and I sat across the coffee-house table from another couple.
The woman had a PHD in history. She continued…
“Men decided what to include in the Bible. They had political motivations.”
“And when I say ‘men’, I mean ‘men’.”
“The Bible was written to hold women back. Who would follow a God who hates half the people in the world?”
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28
“Is God Real? If there were a God, He wouldn’t need people to write a Bible. He’d just tell what He wants us to know.”
She arched her eyebrows to emphasize her point, waved her hand dismissively and laughed.
There was so much I wanted to say. There were historical details about how the Bible had been put together; there was a deep belief that whoever physically wrote it, the Bible was inspired by God.

She laughed again…
“ Is God real? If there were a God, there’d be no pain, no evil, and no death!”
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
“I get carried away”, she said. “But it’s so important people know they should doubt the Bible. Anybody want more coffee?”
Why do some people fight so desperately, focus so much effort on disproving the existence of God?
Could it be because God has placed his spirit so deeply inside us that we can never simply ignore Him?
“Lord, you have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in you.” St Augustine
How amazing that God will not force any of us to believe in Him.
Instead He loves us…
And waits patiently for us to love Him…
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
