I can already taste the food from the new grill…
How hard can it be to assemble?
I’ll follow the quick-start guide…
Maybe I’ll have it ready in time for dinner…
Step 1: Open the box…
What could be easier?
Step 2: Compare the parts in the box with the following list of 247 items…
247 items ????
Maybe I’ll speed-read the quick-start guide after all…
There are 47 pages of small, single spaced type! That’s a quick-start guide?
Step 3: Make sure you have the following tools…
Tools? I need tools? I have a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Isn’t that enough?
Step 4: Assemble the firebox…
Looks simple. I don’t need the guide anymore.
I’ll attach the side panels to the bottom of the firebox and add the legs.
Next I’ll attach the lid…
Uh-oh…The screw holes for the lid are covered by the legs…
Where are those instructions?
“Caution!! Secure the lid to the firebox before attaching legs…”
I’ll just remove the legs…
The screws for the legs are also holding part of the firebox together…
I’ll disassemble the firebox, too…
Looking down at the ground, I see all 247 parts once again waiting to be assembled…
Maybe I’ll read the directions after all…
I approach a lot of things in life the same way I approached the grill…
Do I approach my faith the same way?
With more zeal than knowledge and study?
…they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge… Matthew 8:19
Desire without knowledge is not good– how much more will hasty feet miss the way! Proverbs 19:2
And where will I find knowledge?
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness… 2 Timothy 3:16
Maybe…
If I don’t want to see the pieces of my life spread on the ground waiting for assembly…
I should start with the instruction manual…
