…God is light…. 1 John 1:5
Our cat knows where to be on a cold, dark day…
In a warm patch of light.
He seeks out the light, and its warmth and comfort.
When I was so young I can barely remember, I did the same thing.
There were big, tall windows at the south end of our living room…
They cast blocks of sun across the carpet and into the corner of the room where the old fashioned radio stood.
I’d play in a patch of sunlight and listen to the sounds from the radio….
Sounds that rumbled from a speaker as tall as I was.
The light…
The deep bass rumble of the radio…..
They were comforting.
They were warm.
They enveloped me in a sense of place where time stopped…
Then I reached the grown-up age of five.
As you know if you have ever been five years old…
Five-year-olds are far too busy to lay in splotches of sunlight on the living room floor.
By the time I had actually grown up…
Or at least reached the age most people think of as grown up…
I knew real light came from God…
…God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5
But I was far too busy to seek the light of God …
…seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
Sometimes I purposely avoided the light of God …
Sometimes I preferred the darkness…
… Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:19
But the light was always there…
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
The light of God…
Always there for us all…
God, waiting for our return…
…the LORD waits to be gracious to you… Isaiah 30:18
Promising to be with us always…
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
