Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Look At Me God!

“Look at me!”

Look at me God

“Watch me, Pops!”

They are four and two years’ old….

They each want my attention…

All of it.

The two-year-old runs past me…

Calling my name….

The four-year-old…

Wise beyond her years in the art of persuasion….

Walks up and tugs my sleeve.

“I have an idea,” she whispers…

Bending down, I give her all my attention.

“Let’s go over there…” she says…

“And play all by ourselves.”

Just then the two-year-old runs past…making a noise he hopes will make me chase him.

And so I do.

“Pops!” his sister shouts…

“Let’s all play a game together!”  I call.

At a loss for an idea for a game…

I shout to the two-year-old…

“You chase your sister and I’ll chase you!”

And so we all run around in circles…

Everybody happy…

Everybody laughing…

Everybody feeling noticed…

Everybody feeling loved…

Each one of my grandchildren melts my heart.

I love each of them with my whole heart…

But as much as I can give all of my heart to each of them…

My time and attention and physical presence is not so easy to divide.

There is only one physical me.

I can only be one place at a time…

Truly focused on only one person.

How different with God…

Who knows each one of us intimately…

Who watches us even before we cry out, “Look at me God”

For God is spirit…

And His spirit…

Is with each of us…

all the time….

… “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Everywhere…

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? Psalm 139:7

He knows everything about us…

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” Jeremiah 1:5

He promises that we will be with Him forever…

… the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

And that He will love us as only He can love…

God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.   Saint Augustine
