“Outreach!” he said…
“The very word means we’re reaching out to people far away!”
“And besides…
having that food bank truck in our lot once a week makes the church look bad.”
“Do we want people to think our members need help from the food bank?”
It was a church committee meeting about showing God’s love to others…
There was little love in the room…
Angry words were exchanged…
One faction wanted to focus on local service…
The other thought that simply was not important enough for God…
“If we are going to serve God, we have to do something worthy of Him. Something big. Not some little local thing!”
Finally it came time to end the meeting…
In prayer of course…
After all this was a church meeting…
“Dear God, as we go about our daily lives we ask you to bless us…”
The meeting was at my friend’s church…
“I started thinking about that prayer”, she said.
“We asked God to bless us… to bless us right now…”
“To bless us as we live our everyday lives…”
“God has yet to bless anyone except where they actually are, and if we faithlessly discard situation after situation, moment after moment, as not being “right”, we will simply have no place to receive his kingdom into our life.” ― Dallas Willard
“Yet we didn’t want to use our everyday lives to bring God’s blessing to others.”
We thought we had to find some special place…something big enough to be worthy of God…
“Maybe we should just start with loving each other…”
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
“And follow God wherever He leads us next…”
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8
