People noticed him when he walked into the room…
He was in his twenties, six feet tall and had more muscle in one arm than I have in my whole body.
And yet, somehow, he didn’t look healthy. The dark circles under his eyes gave him an air of fatigue.
He sat down and we started a casual conversation.
Suddenly he became very serious…
“I just don’t feel God in my life most days.” he said. “I used to feel his presence all the time.”
“Tell me about your day…”
“I get to the gym by five every morning and work out till seven. Most days I work out another hour at night, even if I‘m at the office until seven or eight, which is happening a lot lately.”
“I’m in a soccer league. We practice every Saturday and at least two days a week. For a few weeks in the fall I’m also in a football league.”
“Do you think you make time for God?
Could you be crowding God out of your life?”
He looked shocked. Then he answered with a single word. “Yes.”
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalm 62:5
My friend had the discipline to devote time to developing his physical strength.
Perhaps it takes discipline to make time to God…to develop our spiritual strength
Will we have to cross some things off our lists to make time for God?
Why not ask God that question right now?
…go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, Mathew 6:6
Could the very act of asking that question move us closer to God?
The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8
