Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Making All Things New

Making all things new …   Revelation 21:5

No more TV in the bedroom!

Making All things new

One less electronic device to keep us awake at night…

The TV comes down easily…

The wall mount takes a little more work.

Finally…

A few more screws to remove…

A little tug….

And the mount is off the wall…

What will I do with this ugly industrial-grade wall mount?

making all hings new

I might change my mind about no TV in the bedroom…

Maybe I’ll want that mount someday…

I’ll keep it.

Store it.

But where?

In the storage room that’s already crowded with things I think I might want someday?

No room.

There are only two places for it…

In the garbage…

Or back on the wall.

Sometimes the hardest part of doing something new…

At least for me…

Is getting rid of the old.

For instance…

I’d like to be a new me…

But that means getting rid of the old me…

…rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.  1 Peter 2:1

Rid myself of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander?

That’s a lot to throw away.

I’ve gotten used to all those things.

They are habits.

They are comfortable.

Couldn’t I hang onto some of them…

Just in case I change my mind?

Sort of blend the old me with the new me?

Didn’t Jesus have a warning about that approach?

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.  And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”  Mark 2:21-22

A whole new me is the only answer?

Impossible!

But God makes it possible…

Through His grace…

Through Jesus…

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—  Romans 6:6

For God has declared…

…. “Behold, I am making all things new.”   Revelation 21:5
