Multi-tasking….
It is the only way to survive this day.
Get the toddler and the baby out of bed…
Give them breakfast…
Get dressed…
Get them dressed…
Get everybody in their car seats…
Drop the kids at the sitter’s…
Head to work…
How will she make it through the day?
She works part-time…
Part time work was supposed to mean she had more time to spend with her family…
less stress…
More rest…
Working part time means she has to finish a full week’s work in half the time…
Multi-tasking is the only answer…
Writing notes during meetings, working through lunch… Multi-tasking
She wonders…
What does Jesus think about multi-tasking?
Does He tell us to go forth and multi-task?
Or is His message a little different?
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well-Mathew 6:33
Does Jesus tell us to keep picking up more and more things to do?
Or does he have a different plan?
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13
Lay down our life?
Could it mean laying down our wants and desires and plans?
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Mathew 16:24
But how do we deny ourselves while we are still here on earth, and have kids and jobs and families and bills to pay?
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
The verses sound so good, so wise, and so true…
But how can she follow them right now, this very moment, when she’s already exhausted before the day even begins?
She is tired. She needs rest.
Multi-tasking won’t get her through this day…
Her own strength won’t be enough…
As she drives the car in the early dark of a winter morning, she starts to cry… And to pray…
“Jesus, I can’t do this on my own. I need your help, now.”
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” ~ Mathew 11:28-30
