Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Name Above All Names

“Jesus Christ…”

name above all names

4 years old…

He walked up the stairs slowly…

With each step, loudly repeating Jesus’ name…

His parents sat downstairs in the living room…

With neighbors.

Listening to what sounded like a four-year-old’s swearing fest.

Uncomfortable smiles and chuckles…

“Bobby,” his mother called…

He came back down the stairs repeating Jesus’ name with each downward step…

“What are you doing?” his mother asked.

“Huh?”

“Why are you saying Jesus’ name over and over again?”

“We learned about him in Sunday school today, so I was just saying His name.”

“Oh.”

A smile…

“Well, we don’t use Jesus’ name that way,” his mother said.

The rules about not using Jesus’ name start so early…

Don’t use His name in vain…

Don’t be a crazy Christian…

Don’t…

Don’t…

Don’t…

With all the “Don’ts” maybe we forget the “do’s” about Jesus’ name…

Maybe we forget who Jesus really is…

The word of God

The image of God…

The Son of God

Our very Salvation…

Forget that in his name we find rest…

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30

Forget that in His name alone we find salvation…

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

But if we will remember, then we will proclaim the Good news of Gospel…

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.    Mark 16:15

And loudly proclaim the name of Jesus…

The name above all names …

Proclaim it with our words, our actions and our lives…

…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2:10-11

(If you are wondering… I was the 4 year old in this story. Although I don’t really remember it happening, I know about it because this story became  one of those “cute” tales parents tell at family gatherings to embarrass children.)
