“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Metaphor Alert
Warning!
This post is based on a really cheesy metaphor about the power of God in our lives.
If you are allergic to metaphors do NOT continue reading.
Otherwise proceed at you own risk…
“Snow,” said the forecaster, “will start at 4 PM, and end by midnight with light accumulation of less than an inch.”
The snow started falling at noon…
By 4 PM several inches of “light accumulation” covered the driveway.
“Release your inner child”, I told myself. “Play in the snow.”
I started the snow blower and headed out to the driveway.
I pushed with all my might to keep that snow blower moving…
It was hard work!
I was about halfway finished when my wife took pity on me. “Let me finish for you”, she said.
I could have refused, but….
I watched as she moved up and down the driveway with ease.
“How did you make that look so easy?” I asked when she finished.
“You do remember when we bought the snow blower, and you said since we lived in a place where it snows a lot we needed one that was really powerful?’
“Yes.”
“So you bought the two-stage, self-propelled, four-speed model. It moves by itself. All you have to do is walk behind it.”
And there it is…the cheesy metaphor about the power of God.
How often do I try to substitute my power for God’s power? How often does that make my life more difficult?
How often does God chuckle in amusement at my earnest efforts?
How often does he sigh at my effort to substitute my power for His?
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me…” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Not cheesy — smart and perceptive, with a good dose of humor!
I just read Job 33:14 this morning: “For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it.”
Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the reply. I like your reference to Job 33:14. Don’t you think that God has chosen over time to speak through what some would consider pretty ordinary circumstances? Consider the burning bush–God Almighty speaking to a Shepard in the middle of nowhere. He could have chosen to speak in a temple to a priest in the midst of a crowd. Isn’t it great to serve a God who looks for ways to remind us that He is with us everywhere. (And who sometimes displays His sense of humor in the process.)
We like push when really we need to relax. You need a riding snowplow with all that snow. Think of the analogiesy then!
Riding snow blower! I Like it!
Say cheese. I’m sort of a photographer. That analogy was very photogenic.
It is nice to start my day with a chuckle – and yes, I also forget at times how all powerful and knowing and always good our God is.
It is easy to forget, is’t it?
Thanks for reading and leaving a comment, Craig.
