It is my rainbow…
And I am proud of it…
Did you see the pictures on social media?
I look at those rainbow pictures on my computer and smile a proud smile…
And think proud thoughts…
My rainbow.
I created it.
How, you ask, did I create a rainbow?
It was a sunny day…
I was working in the yard…
When I pointed the hose toward the fence….
The sun and the water combined…
And suddenly my homemade rainbow lit up a corner of the yard…
Yep…
That’s my rainbow.
I created it.
Except, of course, it isn’t my rainbow at all.
I didn’t make the water…
Or the sunshine …
How foolish that my own deluded thoughts of grandeur…
O Lord, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Psalm 144:3
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8:3-4
Blind me to the true grandeur of the One who really created the rainbow…
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 1 Chronicles 29:11
How foolish that I forget what God tells us to remember when we see a rainbow…
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Genesis 9:12-13
And forget the promise He made when he created the first rainbow…
I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:11
A precursor to the greatest promise of God …
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
