I am obsessed with a website…
My wife knows my obsession.
My Daughter knows my obsession.
My son-in-law knows my obsession.
I am about to confess it to you…
Here it is…
Any time I have a spare minute…
I pick up my iPhone…
Or my IPad…
Or look at my computer…
and go to…
A real estate website…
Next year my wife and I plan to move closer to our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
How bad is my obsession?
Just the other day my wife and I were driving past the grocery store…
I needed a couple things, but knew my wife had a busy schedule.
“I know it will take a little time…” I said, beginning my sentence in mid-thought…
“No,” she said, and smiled. “I don’t have time to go to an open house today.”
“Open house?” I thought. “Why would she immediately think open house?”
Maybe it’s because any time I have an extra minute, I pick up my smart phone or my tablet and go to the real estate website…
Which is exactly what I did as soon as we got home that day…
“Look at this house,” I called and handed her my IPad …
A few minutes later, I was back…
“Here’s another one. Is the yard too small?”
And then…
“One more house. It’s been on the market a long time. Do you think there’s something wrong with it?”
My wife is very nice about my obsession with finding the perfect house…
But perhaps I am overdoing it…
Maybe I should remember the words of a relative many years ago when someone was praising his home…
“But Mary,” he said, “it’s just a house.”
“Just a house…”
A house for our physical bodies…
A house that will vanish someday as will they.
The wrong place to be seeking refuge …
Maybe I should obsess something more lasting…
For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Hebrews 13:14
Remember Jesus’ promise….
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? John 14:2
And obsess about something a little more permanent…
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Matthew 24:35
