It takes a big God …
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. Psalm 147:5
She’s in mid-sentence as the elevator door opens…
“My whole lunch hour,” she complains to her friend…
“My whole lunch hour!”
She waves her hands as she talks…
Her face turns red…
Her exasperation paints a frown on her face…
Creases her forehead with wrinkles.
“I spent my whole lunch hour looking,” she says to her friend…
“I couldn’t find one anywhere…”
“I need to find one today or I’ll be in trouble.”
The elevator rises to the third floor, and then the fourth…
The door opens and her friend gets out…
“Good luck,” the friend calls as the door closes…
“I’ll need it,” the woman says quietly…
The elevator rises again…
“If you don’t mind my asking,” says a third woman in the car, “What are you looking for?”
“A notary!”
“I need some personal papers notarized.
I have to mail them today, and I can’t find a notary anywhere!”
“I’m a notary,” says the third woman.
“Bring your papers to the 11th floor. Ask for me at the desk. “
A few minutes later the woman signs the papers…
The notary affixes her seal and signs her own name.
“Isn’t it amazing,” says the woman with the papers, “how God arranges everything?”
“I spend my whole lunch hour looking for a notary, and then God puts me in an elevator with you…”
“ It takes a big God,” she says, “to care about the small things.”
Smiling…
Her frown gone…
She picks up her papers and leaves.
Secure in the knowledge that God is big enough to be with her wherever she goes, whatever she experiences…
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
