Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

The Power of Jesus

Waves 6 to 7 feet high…

The Power of Jesus

Winds gusts up to 45 miles per hour…

Water spouts reported over the south end of the big lake…

Red flags flying at the beach…

Dangerous rip currents.

Standing at the shore…

Bracing against the wind…

Hearing the crash of the waves…

Showered by their spray…

Then in my mind, I hear a voice…

A voice from the Bible…

He …rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Mark 4:39

No waves.

No Wind.

Bright sunshine.

In an instant.

How would I react if someone spoke those words…

And the wind and waves on this lake instantly obeyed?

Suddenly the power of the Bible story is real.

How many times have I read the story of Jesus calming the sea…

And not understood its power?

Not Understood the power of Jesus

Has this ever happened to you?

Do we miss the power of the Bible by just reading its words?

By not imagining that we are part of the story?

By not seeing the story as if it were happening here and now?

Read again the story of Jesus calming the sea…

And Imagine…

Imagine you are there…

And experience the power of the story…

Experience the power of Jesus …

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”  Mark 4:35-41
