Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
The floor looked really bad…
So we paid someone to fix it…
I stand on the edge of the room watching it dry….
Shiny spots in the middle…
Dry stripes around the edges…
I am worried…
We paid for this result?
The floor guy warned me before he left…
‘The floor won’t dry evenly,’ he said…
‘Don’t worry how it looks until it’s all dry.’
He fixes floors every day…
He can picture the outcome.
Sighing, I walk away.
Guess I have to put my faith in things unseen …
Walking back to the computer, I try to write…
With a laugh, I realize my life is like that floor…
Some parts look pretty good…
Others a little spotty.
Not every part of my life is going the way I planned…
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. James 4:13-16
If my plan isn’t working, I guess I need faith in God…
Trust in things unseen …
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Excuse me, God…
Couldn’t You be a little more specific about your plan for my life…
Exactly what you want me to be?
…to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29
I just took another look at the floor.
Here’s the floor after it dried…
My faith in the floor guy is justified…
Why can’t I have the same faith in God?
God who sees what I cannot see…
Who knows what I cannot know…
then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it. Ecclesiastes 8:17
God. Who pledges to finish what He has begun…
…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
God. Who gives us strength…
God. Who will be with us always…
Be strong and courageous…for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
