Christian Devotional-Stories and Bible verses about the presence of God in our lives

Things Unseen

Do things unseen shape our lives?

“What a mess!”

Things unseen

My wife points to the tangle of cords behind the entertainment center…

She’s right.

It is a mess.

I walk past it so often I don’t even notice.

It is a thing unseen.

“Look at the floor in front of the sink,” my wife continues…

floor

“But it’s covered by a rug!” I protest.

We’re walking around the house finding things we need to fix.

Things we no longer notice…

Maybe it is time to tidy-up the cords and repair the floor.

But it’s so much easier to ignore the one and hide the other…

To turn them into things unseen…

How much are our lives shaped by things unseen?

We turn our eyes from God’s goodness and love…

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  John 3:16-17

We look away from His absolute power…

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.  1 Chronicles 29:11

We do not see His absolute holiness…

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”  Isaiah 6:3

We ignore His ever-present strength…

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Deuteronomy 31:6

We ignore our own sinfulness…

even though it is in us all…

for all have sinned… Romans 3:23

How different would our lives become if we payed attention to things ignored and hidden?

To things unseen?

If we stopped hiding our sin…

And ignoring God’s grace…

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.  Titus 2:11-14
