Wow. The first six words stopped me… “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit”…
These days, much of our world’s culture is built on rivalry and conceit.
Followers of Jesus, though, are aliens here and are not to adopt that culture.
But this morning, I’m taking a good look … and I see rivalry and conceit in many of my attitudes.
Thank you, fellow pilgrim, for these words of guidance.
Elaine… Thank for the authenticity of your comment. Personally, it’s so easy to do something for my own benefit or to make myself look good (Rivalry and conceit?) There are even times I’ve proud of my humility… Oh. Right. Pride is the opposite of humility!
Your comment rings true for me. It is hard though to keep track of those moments when we adapt these attitudes. Always needing to be careful of our words and actions can become quite stressful. However I try hard to be aware. Awareness is the key. So I ask what would Jesus do or say? Perhaps if we ask ourselves this we can be humble. For he was the humblest of humble. Do I truly believe this? Oh dear…
