There once was a church…

Top 13 Bible Verses-Who Does God Want in His Church

(This is a true story…)

That started with no members at all…

And grew and grew…

Until over 100 people attended services every Sunday.

“That’s enough!” said the 100 members.

“It’s comforting to know everyone who sits next to us on Sunday.”

There once was a church…

(This is a true story…)

That got an email from someone who was not a member…

who wasn’t even sure she believed in God.

Maybe the church’s Bible study would help her decide.

Could she attend even though she might miss a couple of sessions when she didn’t have child care?

“Our church believes in community,” said the study leader.

“How can you be part of our community if you’re not here every session?”

Our church…

Our comfort…

Our community…

But the Church is God’s…

Who would God comfort?

Who would God include in His community?

Matthew 11:28-30

Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you. …

Note: The two stories in this post are specific, real life events…one very recent, and one from a few years ago.  I tell these stories because they remind me how easy it is to look at others through the lens of my own expectations for a Christ follower, rather than through God’s eyes of love.
