If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Romans 8:29 is also an important one: “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”
God’s purpose in saving any person is to conform them into the image of Christ
Born and raised in the 1960s in the suburbs of Los Angeles California. I lived a completely criminalistic lifestyle until the age of 34. I considered myself extremely slick, because I was acquitted of cases that I should’ve been convicted for. Then I was convicted for a crime I did not commit, and sent to California prisons lifer yard with three strikes. I complained to my grandmother who stated , “ thank God you’re alive, because in my day you all were strange fruit”. Mind you, in the year of 2000 she had 13 grandsons serving long sentences. I eventually became grateful, in realizing you reap what you sow, and God has allowed me to live all these years, when so many around me died early. I wouldn’t wish prison on those that lied on me nor on their children or anyone for that matter. Once I realized that, God just really started enlightening me. I didn’t read anything but scripture and spiritual enlightenment for the next years. Something only prisoners or monks in a monastery have the ability to do. God blessed me with my freedom in 2007 and everyone of my cousins have been out more than a decade. I’ve been a youth mentor every since my release with the Oakland California police departmentsOK Kids Program. God has given me so much strength hope and experiences to share with the children, and I have seen so many blossoms through the years. God Has truly planned for all of our futures, and can make any mess into a message or a messenger.
What an amazing story of God’s redemptive love and grace. Thank you for sharing it
