Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 12:26

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
James 2:20-24
Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
Matthew 10:22
And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

….But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Mat 10:22
I understood salvation is by grace but this verse seems to say that is more than that, as well as James 2:24.
I think there is another way to look at Matthew 10:22 besides saying that it adds something to grace as a requirement for salvation… not that endurance is a requirement but that it is merely evidence of a life lived in grace.
The same thing with James. This passage bothered me for years, but I don’t think I was looking at it correctly. James’ discussion starts in Chapter 2 verse 14, where he is talking about faith and deeds. I think he is saying that real faith will produce deeds as a natural by-product. But We are not justified by those deeds–they are simply an out-flowing of faith. For instance, how can we really follow Jesus and not also follow his direction to the love God and others? And how can we follow that directive without producing actual works…BUT…Those deeds are not what justifies us in God’s eyes…for even when we do good deeds, they come not from our innate evil, but from the goodness of God himself..
As Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
So the good works come not from us, but from God and therefore cannot be seen as justification for salvation, which is by grace alone.
Anyway… I am not a theologian and do not have an advanced degree…that’s merely the way my Bible study has led me on these issues and these verses. Thanks for your comments. Always interested to hear to hear your further thoughts.
