Trust God every day …
“Daddy’s not going to die,” he says…
Sitting in his lap, his five-year-old son looks up at him…
“Really,” the dad repeats…
“I’m not going to die now…”
He has faith that what he has said is true.
The doctors aren’t so sure…
It all started one day when he felt so fatigued on the job….
That he sat down to rest for 5 minutes…
And woke up forty-five minutes later.
He’s been losing weight.
Always tired.
Time to see the doctor.
“Let’s do some tests,” the doctor says.
The news isn’t good.
A brain tumor.
Not cancerous.
But large and growing aggressively.
The doctor thinks they can remove it without opening the skull.
But after the procedure…
More bad news.
“We couldn’t get enough of the tumor,” the doctor says…
“We’ll have to open the skull.”
And so, the father holds his son on his lap for a second time….
Saying again, “Daddy’s not going to die.”
That was two years ago…
Today the father and son wrestle playfully on the family room floor.
The son laughing in sheer joy…
Suddenly the boy stops…
Sits up…
And looks at his father.
“Daddy,” he says…
“You’re back to normal.”
“You’re not going to die.”
The father wipes away a tear as he continues the story…
“Even with the second procedure,” he tells me…
“They couldn’t get all of the tumor.”
“It’s not growing right now…”
“But the fact that it’s there, reminds me that all I can do is trust God. Trust Him every day.”
“Do you want me to share your story?” I ask.
“Yes,” he answers.
“Maybe it will remind people that they can trust God every day.”
